Welcome to the 2018-2019 Season!
It is hard to believe we are entering our third year. We are delighted to once again bring you world-class jazz performances with some of Buffalo’s most esteemed musicians. We are excited to return to the Buffalo History Museum, begin a new partnership with West Falls Center for the Arts, and bring you exciting special concerts and programs with some of the most sought after venues and musicians in Buffalo and the surrounding areas. Keep checking back, as we update our lineups frequently!
"Buffalo has a new voice when it comes to the jazz scene. Buffalo Jazz Collective... was formed to ensure that this city's jazz future is as solid as its past."
— Buffalo rising
— Rohn Emke, Buffalo SPREE | Second Sunday's at the Buffalo History Museum
With Second Sundays at the Buffalo History Museum, Third Fridays at West Falls Center for the Arts, and shows at the renowned MusicalFare Theatre, Taylor Theater, Ciminelli Recital Hall and more, the Buffalo Jazz Collective has solidified itself as a major force on the Western New York jazz scene.
Our Second Season
Thank you to everyone for a successful second season!
What an exciting second season! Bringing back old favorites, introducing new programs, instating new series, holding special events, and inviting some of the biggest names in jazz to Buffalo, we hope there was something for everyone to enjoy.
We worked hard to live up to our mission of preserving, celebrating and advancing jazz in Western New York through our many performances, educational opportunities for Buffalo Public School students, and media collaborations. We look forward to continuing our efforts in the new season.
Since October 2016, we have held countless major performances at 10 area venues. For these, we hired 30+ of the top local jazz musicians and dozens of special guest performers from NYC, Toronto, California, Colorado, Rochester, and more; most with ties to Western New York!
Thanks to the combined efforts of the BJC and Buffalo Public Schools Music Department, we continued the All City Jazz Ensemble. With the immense generosity of the Sportsmens Americana Music Foundation, we were able to gift the Second Annual Floyd Fried Scholarship award to two BPS seniors entering into music studies at college this fall.
In Collaboration with Crosswater Digital Media, we participated in a virtual reality, 360 spatial audio recording session in Buffalo State's Ciminelli Recital Hall. Check out the Crosswater Digital Media Facebook page to view those amazing recordings!
One of our greatest accomplishments is our ability to provide scholarships to Buffalo Public School students participating in our All City Jazz Ensemble. Thanks to the immense generosity of the Sportsmens Americana Music Foundation, we were able to gift the Second Annual Floyd Fried Scholarship award to two BPS seniors entering into music studies at college this fall. This year's recipients were Oscar Woodrich (University at Buffalo), and Gabriel Cordero (Hofstra University). Neasheem Godfrey (Buffalo State) and Noah Reed-Eason (Buffalo State), also received new instruments through Music Is Art. Thank you to Music is Art for your donation, and thank you to Joe Clouse for doing the necessary repair work on both instruments!
We have accomplished many incredible things over the past three years, much of which was made possible by small individual donations. We are very proud of our donor list that includes well over 100 generous supporters.
If you are in a position to donate in the 2018-2019 season, we would very much appreciate your support. If you have interest in donating a large amount (or know of an interested business), please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss possibilities for naming a concert series, event, or being included on an exclusive list of our key sponsors.
