Please join us as we gear up for our fourth season! The Buffalo Jazz Collective Trio of George Caldwell, Sabu Adeyola, and John Bacon will lead an exciting jam session featuring many musicians who are included on upcoming concerts. We will share our plans and ways you may become involved. And, of course, you can enjoy listening to the music with your favorite pint of Flying Bison beer. All proceeds benefit the musicians. General admission tickets include first beer. 50/50 Raffle and Silent Auction will be held the day of the Celebration!
After a brief stint with Clifford Jordan, Caldwell followed Mulgrew Miller into the piano chair of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, leading to seven years with The Count Basie Orchestra, under the direction of Frank Foster. Some of the many great artists he has shared the bandstand with include Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Frank Wess, Clark Terry, Quincy Jones, George Benson, Kenny Garrett, Art Blakey, Savion Glover, Lou Rawls, Lionel Hampton, George Coleman, Louis Smith, Joe Newman, Roy Hargrove, Bobby McFerrin, Max Roach and Jon Faddis.
Bassist Sabu Adeyola, protégé to the late jazz master Charles Mingus, is one of jazz music's finest. As a member of the most celebrated trios to have toured with legendary pianist Ahmad Jamal, Sabu (with Payton Crossley) incorporated a spiritual swing to Ahmad's signature style.
Sabu has spent his career touring, performing, and recording with industry elites including Abbey Lincoln, Ahmad Jamal, Charlie Byrd, Dexter Gordon, Roy Haynes, Flip Phillips, Cassandra Wilson, and more.
John Bacon, percussionist and composer, has performed with Lester Bowie, Roswell Rudd, Bobby Previte, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Bobby Militello and as a leader in a variety of ensembles. He teaches percussion at UB and is head of Jazz at Villa Maria College in Buffalo, NY. He holds a PhD. in Music Composition from SUNY at Buffalo. His diverse skills as a percussionist, trap drummer and vibe player have been featured with a wide range of groups.
